Merry Christmas 2013

    pat a cake

again I LOVE Christmas time and this year did not dissapoint!! it was a delightful season ending a in lovely week of gingerbread decorating with Annabelle; hanging at Seaworld ( you were not a fan of the snow) where the reindeer didn't look like he was taking Santa anywhere; hang time with aunt Lizzie, who scored big points by getting you 'new chlo chlo'( we apparently can't fool you anymore;

all ending at the beach where you went cray for the water... happy birthday Jesus, merry Merry Christmas.

party time

We didn't get to celebrate Ari & uncle tinki's birthdays with them this week, so we took advantage of Kelis belated birthday bash to celebrate for all. and you did that. your 15min snooze in the car to the party was all the rest we got, otherwise it's like you had a switch flipped and stuck on ON. today was a good day and a great way to celebrate three of some of your favorite peeps.

happy birthday Ari-we love you❤️❤️❤️❤️

Happy birthday to your favorite uncle, uncle tinki😘😘😘

Jesus is Everywhere, even Disney

I think Christmas is the most magical time and Disney is one of the most magical places. the idea of going to Disney during Christmas was a must for all-nai nai, me, papa and of course you!!! momom ended up getting more than she had expected.I went anticipating a magical time and I got that and I saw Jesus.
as we were settling ourselves to watch the parade, we happened to sit next to a mom with her son & her mother-in-law. parade seating takes strategy and we ended up strategizing first row comfort in the midst of small talk. her hubby came later with another boy and received a call. he was right next to me and I heard him tell someone they'd lost another son 3.5 yrs old during a routine tonsil surgery 3 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago!!! I'm sorry if I squeezed you too hard, but I was so shattered when I heard him speak; hide away as he spoke so the kids wouldn't see and his wife holding back tears as he spoke. Listening to her hold his hand and speak of how God knew best, had a purpose etc. I obviously had to say something and they were just so open, gracious and so faithful. I couldn't stop telling them what amazing parents they were. and of course as the parade ended I prayed I could hug them and when she looked up to say goodbye, I did. I don't think he was much of a hugger but he let me:)) everything about the way the touched each other when one seemed to be about to breakdown; the way they held their boys; the way they made the parade so magical for the boys, and constantly thanking the twin of the deceased boy for being so good and patient. everything about this family screamed Jesus, and I felt so humbled to have known them even for an hour. Since Thursday I haven't stopped thinking about that sweet boy and his family. I never met him, yet he's inspired me to do better and be better in the last couple of days. and to most of all treasure the time I get with you ALWAYS.  After I told Nai Nai & papa I know all three of us  were so poignantly reminded of how powerful and truly beyond magical Jesus is. He is the Truly everything everywhere. There's nothing more spiritual than feeling like you saw Jesus during Christmas time and at Disney.

'..bring him back home to Soweto..'

my whole childhood I heard songs that have stayed with me still like ' bring back Nelson Mandela bring him back home to Soweto. I want to see him walking down the streets of Africa..' So when the announcement of his death flashed on a screen in a store as we walked by, nai nai & I couldn't help but sing that song.

Nelson Mandela was the hero of the end of Apartheid. He was imprisoned for 27years because he didn't want people who look like us to be second class citizens. because we're not.
visiting his old cell

now if you babes were to vacation in South Africa, you can choose any hotel, restaurant or bathroom. as a child vacationing in South Africa I couldn't do that. I'll never forget the day he was freed. February 11, 1990. I was at boarding school and all classes, study time everything was cancelled that day. I was 13 years old. I remember walking alone to the announcement board by the classrooms. It was quiet and I just stood there and read the article over and over again. Mandela is Free! Over and over I just stood there and read it. it was a very good day for me & Africa
                     FREE

I have had this posted quote in a bathroom, a closet a dresser for some years now. It was said by Marianne Williamson but was beautifully repeated by Nelson Mandela. For me him saying it, just resonated more.

 And I can honestly say Nelson Mandela had a huge lifelong impact on my life. Thank you Mr Mandela for fighting for my rights without ever knowing me. I've always loved you since I understood. You make me proud to be an African, just like you. RIP.
